Mrs. Robert H. Lewis, mother of the mayor of Grimsby, Clarence W. Lewis, died Thursday morning at her residence, 2 Paton Street, Grimsby.
Her husband, who died a few weeks ago, was well known in municipal life in the town, serving for some time as reeve and councillor of the Township Council and Councillor and Mayor of the Town.
The former Margery Gillespie, Mrs. Lewis was born in Cobourg, Ont., in 1868. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gillespie.
She had been a resident of Grimsby for a number of years. She was an adherent of Trinity United Church.
Surviving are two sons, Clarence W. and John R. Lewis, both of Grimsby, and three daughters, Miss Grace Lewis, Reg.N., Miss Verna Lewis and Mrs. Armand Hummell, also of Grimsby.
Funeral services were held from her late home on Saturday afternoon with Rev. A. Leonard Griffith of Trinity United Church officiating. Interment was in Queen's Lawn Cemetery.
Casket bearers were: H.V. Betzner, P.E. Wilkins, G.G. Bourne, Clifford Waite, James Dunham and Cecil Gowland.
