Full Text

St. Catharines Standard - The remains of Norman Meek, 3-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Meek, 19 1/2 St. Paul Street West, were found floating in still water near the Martindale Point, Port Dalhousie, about 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The body was found by the father of the boy, who was patrolling the waters. The body of William Meek, the elder brother, aged 5 years, was found Tuesday morning, just as it was floating over the weir at the Welland Vale plant. The finding of the bodies of the two children marks the finish to the tragedy which was enacted on the banks of the raceway of the old canal on Thursday afternoon last, when Norman Meek fell into the water and his brother jumped in to save him. Both children were immediately swept under the water and all efforts to find their bodies by dragging and grappling proved futile. [Ed: Family Search gives the date of death as 28 September 1923]
