Retired employee of the waterworks department of the city of Hamilton, William Henry Oakes, of 827 Cannon Street East, died at his residence Monday morning, aged 73 years.

Mr. Oakes had been a stationary engineer with the Hamilton waterworks department for 30 years and had retired three years ago. He was born in Winona and had lived in Hamilton the last 45 years.

Mr. Oakes was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Boyd Oakes; a son, Clarence, of Hamilton; a daughter, Mrs. William Ashbaugh, of Hamilton; two brothers, Alfred of Kingston, and Fred of Grimsby, and three sisters, Mrs. Charles Utter, Misses Maude and Lillian, all of Grimsby.
