Mrs. Alice C.A. Stewart, widow of Alex Stewart, died at her late home, Kidd Avenue, Grimsby, on Sunday night, after a lingering illness.
In her 74th year, she was born at Grimsby on May 24, 1875, a daughter of the late Sarah and Edwin Norton, and had spent almost her entire life in Grimsby. She married twice. Her first husband, John E. Scott, died in 1933 and her second husband died 3 years ago. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving is one son, Douglas E. Scott, of Grimsby; also two sisters and four brothers: Mrs. Nellie E. Caldwell, Dundas; Mrs. G.L. McBride, Grimsby; Edwin J. Norton, Grimsby; Charles E. Norton, Wilmington, Delaware; Fred W. Norton and Roy W. Norton, both of Hamilton.
Private funeral services were conducted by Rev. George McLean at the Stonehouse Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon. Interment was in Queen's Lawn Cemetery.
The casket bearers were her three brothers, Edwin, Fred and Roy, and Gordon McBride, brother-in-law.
