Provincial Police are investigating the possibility that William Vickers, 80-year-old North Grimsby fruit grower, found unconscious and with severe facial injuries in his home on Sunday, may have been the victim of foul play. Vickers, who resides alone on the Ridge Road west, was found by son, Charles, who lives nearby. During Sunday night the aged man was removed to Hamilton General Hospital, where he had not regained consciousness on Wednesday. Police found a pool of blood in the yard near the door of a shed and also say that bloodstains were found in different rooms of the house, both upstairs and downstairs. When found, police were told, Vickers lay on the springs of a bed with a torn mattress partly on top of him and his head caught in the headrail of the bed. The condition of the room gave the appearance that a struggle might have taken place. There is a possibility, one officer stated, that Vickers may have accidentally injured himself and then wandered through the house until collapsing from loss of blood.
