One of Grimsby's oldest citizens, and resident for some 35 years, George Ridout Secor died at his home here on Saturday, March 24, 1923, in his 87th year. Mr. Secor was born in Scarboro township, York County, April 13, 1836, the 10th child and last to survive of a family of 11. He was a son of Peter C. Secor and Elizabeth Winslow, who when they came to Scarboro were almost the first settlers. George R. Secor lived in Scarboro for many years, was married there to Elizabeth Malcolm, who predeceased him two years. and came to Grimsby township about 40 years ago, settling near Smithville. He was long a member of Union Lodge, No. 7, A.F. & A.M., Grimsby Chapter, R.A.M., and the Methodist Church. He was a staunch Liberal, and an ardent worker in the ranks. Surviving are three sons and three daughters; Joseph S. of Grimsby east, Arthur, of Calgary; Milford, of Wausau, Wis.; Mrs. Thomas Walker, Mrs. William R. Patterson and Mrs. Alexander Graham, all of Grimsby. The funeral took place on Tuesday, March 27th, from his late residence, Adelaide Street, under Masonic auspices, the Rev. Dr. Irwin conducting the Church service. Interment was in Queen's Lawn Cemetery, the pallbearers being J.H. Culp, A.F. Hawke, T.R. Hunter, W.F. Randall, J.P. Robertson and James A. Wray.
