On Thursday, September 25, 1919, a prominent and life-long citizen of the Townships of South Grimsby and Saltfleet passed away in the person of Mr. Zachariah Jacobs, when he succumbed to the hand of death, at his home near Fruitland, after an illness of six weeks, at the age of 77 years. The deceased gentleman was born in the Township of South Grimsby and lived all his life in that township and in Saltfleet. He is survived by a widow and three sons, William and Alway of Grimsby, and Arthur of Smithville, and two daughters, Mrs. Samuel Fisher and Mrs. William Game of Grimsby. The funeral of the late Mr. Jacobs took place from his late residence on Sunday, September 28, 1919, and was largely attended. Services were held at the house and graveside at the Tweedside Church Burying Ground, by the Rev. Mr. Barker of the Fruitland Methodist Church, the pallbearers being six nephews, all by the name of Jacobs, being David, William, Robert, Ira, Nelson and Roy.
