Mr. W.H. Gurney of Grimsby and Rochester, N.Y., passed away at his home in the latter place, on Tuesday, November 4, 1919, at the ripe old age of 90 years. The late Mr. Gurney was born in England, but came to Canada at an early age and was well known here, either having resided or visited in the District a great deal.The two sisters of the late gentleman, Mrs. (Rev.) John G. Murray and Mrs. Robert Murray were very prominent in church and social circles in the district for many years. The late Mr. Gurney was married to Miss Maria Nelles, a daughter of the late Peter Nelles, and a sister of Mr. Cyrus S. Nelles; and she predeceased him about 7 years. To survive him is left three sons, Eric and Frank of Rochester, N.Y., and Harry of North Carolina, and one daughter, Mrs. George C. Pettit, Grimsby. The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon, November 6, 1919, interment taking place in St. Andrew's Church Cemetery, Grimsby, direct from the Grand Trunk Station, on arrival of the train from Rochester, where service had been held by Rev. Mr. Lee, rector, St. Andrew's Church, that city; the service at the grave conducted by the Rev. J. Allan Ballard, rector, St. Andrew's Church, Grimsby.
