Mrs. E.J. Palmer, for 46 years a beloved and highly esteemed resident of Grimsby, passed peacefully away at her home on Paton Street on Saturday morning, Dec. 20th, 1919, at the age of 81 years. Mrs. Palmer had been in failing health for some time as she suffered very much from neuralgia in the face, but her last hours were very peaceful and painless. She sat up in her room chatting with Mr. Palmer till late Friday evening and after retiring for the night passed into a quiet sleep from which she never awoke. The late Mrs. Palmer was a daughter of the late Peter Coleman of Bowmanville, Ontario, and was born and lived in that town up to the time of her marriage in 1873. She was a lady of quiet but most charming manner and during her 46 years of life in Grimsby made a large circle of friends. She was an earnest member of the Methodist Church and the Rev. J. W. Cooley in preaching her funeral sermon paid many glowing tributes to her sterling qualities as a Christian and a lady. She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Dr. Fred Rosebrough of Hamilton. The funeral took place on Monday, Dec. 22nd to Queen's Lawn Cemetery. Service was held at the house at 2:30 p.m. and Rev. J.A. McLachlan, Rev. L.H. Currie and Rev. T. Radcliffe of Grimsby took part, assisted by the Rev. J.W. Cooley of Stoney Creek, a former pastor of the Methodist Church, Grimsby. Relatives from a distance who were present were: Charles Mills, Kitchener; C.P. Coleman, Buffalo; Major W. L. Coleman, Ottawa; Z.B. Lewis, Y.N. Lewis, Niagara Falls, Ont.; Prof. A.P. Coleman, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Toronto University; Mr. O'Neil, Hamilton; Mrs. Wright, Hamilton; Mrs. Edwards, Toronto; Miss Mills, Guelph. [Ed. note: first name found in Family Search]
