(Galt Times, Friday, October 6, 1922) A remarkable old lady this week passed away in the person of Mary Ann Wilson, widow of the late Robert Ker and daughter of the late A.L. Wilson, of the Customs, Brantford. Her mother was the daughter of Rev. William Ryerson, locally famous as an orator in the Brantford district, and other distinguished member of the quartette of brothers shining in Canadian history as the founder of Ontario's present school system. The late Adam Ker, Galt's first Mayor, who played a conspicuous part in moulding civic conditions for a couple of decades, was her husband's father. In her early days the deceased was a fearless and expert horsewoman, delighting in the exercise afforded. Many of her leisure hours were devoted to reading, enriching her with scholarly attainments that were only measured by friends in the course of their conversations with her - to them being a valued source of general information. When Melville (Presbyterian) Church overlooked the town from Blair road hill, she was one of its most faithful members. Its demolition took her to Central Church, the associations there held being among the joys and comforts of her declining years. Among the other relatives who survive her are her nephew and adopted son, Mr. Robert K. Mearns, the well known member of the Toronto Star staff; Mr. Newton Ker, C.E., for several years City Engineer of Ottawa, and Mrs. William Fowler of Grimsby, a sister.
