Full Text

The death occurred on Wednesday, June 21, 1922, of Solomon Wismer, a resident of Grimsby for the past 35 years. Mr. Wismer was born in Jordan in November 1842, the son of Daniel Wismer and Barbara High, and resided there for some years. In 1866 he married Susan High. On coming to Grimsby he went into the building business, and also established a factory for the manufacture of apple barrels, which business grew to large proportions. All through his career he took an active part in municipal affairs and was a member of the village council for many years being first elected in 1892. In 1902 he was elected reeve and held the position for two years. He was a member of the Methodist church, of Union Lodge No. 16, St. Catharines, I.O.O.F., and was a staunch Liberal in politics. Besides his wife he leaves one son, Rolland of Hamilton; three daughters, Mrs. A.J. Snyder, of Cowley, Alberta; Mrs. A.E. Phipps and Mrs. W.P.S. Millward of Grimsby; and four sisters, Mrs. Charles Phillips of Grimsby; Mrs. James A. Hewitt of Beamsville; Mrs. E.G. Paradise of Buffalo, N.Y.; and Mrs. Alex Ryckman of Hamilton. The funeral took place to Jordan Station cemetery on Friday, June 23, the Rev. Dr. Irwin of Grimsby Methodist Church officiating. The pallbearers were all members of Grimsby Lodge I.O.O.F. and were: H.F. Gilmore, Arthur Hewson, T.E. Mannell, G.E. Miller, Wm. Sangster, W.J. Schwab.
