The funeral of the late John William Duval who died on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1922 took place to Queen's Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, Jan. 26. Mr. Duval was born in Grimsby in 1847, the son of John K. Duval and Charlotte VanDyke, and had spent his life here. As a young man he learned the carpenter and building trade and many are the structures in Grimsby and district built under his guidance in the past half century. His father, John K. Duval, was one of the prime movers in 1875 in the formation of the village of Grimsby, and it was natural that John W. should and always did take a keen interest in public matters. In 1881 he was a member of the village council and incidentally he was the last survivor of that year's municipal body, the others being John H. Grout, C.J. Bates, E. Udell and W. Forbes. As a member of other bodies he has been prominent all his life. By the older residents he will be remembered as a member of Grimsby's first brass band, which organization being all talented musicians lasted for many years. He served for many years on the board of education, and on the water commission on which latter body he was still acting. Mr. Duval was a member of St. John's Presbyterian Church and always an active member of the choir. He was also a member of Union Lodge No. 7, A.F. & A.M. In 1878 Mr. Duval married Augusta Beamer, who survives, besides whom there are one son, Earl, in Grimsby, one daughter, Mrs. Herbert Glover of Fruitland, and one sister, Mrs. Edw. Udell of Simcoe. The funeral took place to Queen's Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, Jan. 26, the Rev. L.H. Currie officiating. The pallbearers were David Allan, C.T. Farrell, L.L. Hagar, A.F. Hawke, A.R. Hunter, W.F. Randall.
