Mrs. Catharine Oliver Middleton, wife of Sheriff J.T. Middleton, died on Sunday, Jan. 22, 1922, at her residence, 370 Main Street East, Hamilton. She was born in Smithville, Lincoln county, on November 2, 1845, a daughter of W.O. Eastman and Catharine Keefer. She married Sheriff Middleton on September 5, 1865, and they came to Hamilton in 1875. She had been ill for about five years and bore her sufferings with great fortitude. She was a member of St. Paul's Church and up to the time of her illness took an active interest in all societies connected with the church. She was a great lover of animals. Her grandfather, Rev. Daniel Ward Eastman, was the first Presbyterian minister between Niagara Falls and Windsor. Her late uncle, T.C. Keefer, of Ottawa, was engineer in charge of the building of the Hamilton waterworks. She leaves to mourn her death, besides her husband, three brothers, D.W. Eastman of Barrie, Dr. Fred Eastman of Lee's Summitt, Mo., and W.O. Eastman, and a nephew A.M. Eastman, both of this city. The funeral took place from the family residence on Tuesday afternoon.
