Another life long resident of Grimsby Township and village, John William Johnson, died at his home on Elizabeth Street, Grimsby on Thursday, Nov. 24th, 1921, in his 74th year. Mr.Johnson was born in the township of Saltfleet in September 1848 but came to Grimsby Township as a boy. He was the son of Richard Johnson and Maria Robinson and was the eldest of the family. He married in 1873 Prudence Betts, and lived on the Bingle farm on the Woolverton mountain. In 1904 he quit farming and moved to Grimsby village where he has resided since. To mourn his demise besides Mrs. Johnson are three daughters, Mrs. Harvey Hill (Jessie); Mrs. Frank Smith (Mabel) of Winona; and Mrs. Ed Warner of Cheboygan, Michigan (Florence); one brother, Richard E. of Grimsby, and three sisters, Mrs. William Betts of Hamilton; Mrs. John Writenburg of Grimsby, and Mrs. A.E. House of Grimsby. The funeral took place on Saturday, Nov. 26 to Queen's Lawn Cemetery, the Rev. T. Ratcliffe officiating... The pall bearers were Reg. Ferris, Matt. Fisher, J.M. Lawrie, T.E. Mannell, James Merritt and Jas. A. Wray.
