Full Text

The funeral of Joseph Hargreaves, who was killed while on duty on the highway, on Tuesday, Sept. 6th, took place on Thursday, Sept. 8th. After a short service at the home, at Winona, a public service, conducted by the pastor, Rev. A.C. Eddy, B.D., was held in Fruitland Methodist Church. A large number of sympathizing friends were present. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery. The following acted as pallbearers: A. Nelson, J. Kay, S. McFarlane, Wm. Lines, Wm. Benner and E. Peer... The deceased was born in Crawshawbooth, Lancashire, England in 1882. In 1907 he was married to Eliza Chippendale, of Barnley, Lancashire. Fifteen months ago he and his family came to Fruitland. In the old land he was honored by his fellow citizens, having been appointed in 1918 deputy district master of the United Order of Oddfellows and in 1919 district master. He was also a member of the grand lodge of the Royal Order of Buffaloes. The late Mr. Hargreaves is survived by his wife and four children, Ethel, Nellie, Gladys and John. His broth-in-law, Joseph Whitfield, and wife also mourn his death.
