An estimable gentleman, well known and highly respected in this district, died at his late residence, 201 Ferguson Avenue, Hamilton, Monday, Sept. 5, in the person of Elijah Francis Snyder. Deceased was born in Abingdon, Ontario 86 years ago, and was reeve of Caistor Township a number of times, and warden of the county of Lincoln. In politics, Mr. Snyder was a staunch Liberal. He was also an earnest worker in the Methodist Church. He was grain commissioner in Hamilton for the past 15 years. Surviving are his wife, Mary, four daughters, Mrs. Angus Stewart, Beamsville; Misses Jessie S., of Buffalo, N.Y., and Edith and Bertha at home; and four sons, Dr. George Snyder, Niagara Falls; Edward B., Hamilton; Alex M., Detroit, and William of Portland, Oregon. The funeral took place on Wednesday from his late residence, 201 Ferguson Avenue South, to Hamilton cemetery, and was largely attended. Rev. Dr. Hughson officiated at the home and grave. The pallbearers were Edward and Dr. G.B. Snyder, Dr. G.R. and C.T. Stewart, Angus Snyder and Geo. A. Snyder.
