Full Text

Edwin Milton Mihell, one of Grimsby's oldest and most respected residents, died on Saturday, June 11th, 1921, after a lingering illness. Mr. Mihell was born in the township of North Grimsby 79 years ago, and moved to Beamsville, where he learned the tinsmith business with the late Wm. Hearle. He then moved to Strathroy, where he married Miss Augusta A. Smith, and came to Grimsby to engage in the tinsmith and stove business, retiring about 13 years ago. Mr. Mihell always took a keen interest in outdoor sports, and was an enthusiastic and accomplished musician. He was one of the first members of the Grimsby Bowling and Curling Clubs, and took an active part in both until two years ago, when he suffered a slight stroke. He was also leader of the Methodist Church choir for 40 years, and had the honor of being a member of the first brass band in the town. In 1876 Grimsby was incorporated as a village, with the late Jas. S. Randall as the first clerk. In 1877 Mr. Mihell was appointed clerk, which position he filled for several years. Mr. Mihell was one of the oldest members of Union Lodge, No. 7, A.F. and A.M., and Grimsby chapter, R.A.M. Besides Mrs. Mihell, one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Mitchell of North Grimsby, and one brother, David M. Mihell, of Brantford, survive. The fuenral took place on Tuesday June 14th, to Queen's Lawn Cemetery, and was largely attended. The Rev. A.J. Irwin officiated.
