Full Text

An old-time resident of Saltfleet and well known to many in Grimsby passed away in the person of Mrs. Eliza Ann McGillicuddy at the home of her son-in-law, F.F. Brown, Dowling Avenue, Toronto, on Friday, May 6, 1921, in her 84th year, after a three-day illness of pneumonia. Mrs. McGillicuddy was born at Tweedside, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Althouse Muir, and one of a family of six sisters and three brothers. The late Mr. McGillicuddy kept a store at Woodburn, and after his death many years ago, Mrs. McGillicuddy continued the business for some years. About a quarter of a century ago, she moved to Toronto and has resided there since. Always an active and healthy woman, she delighted in making herself useful and companionable in the many homes she visited, and she will be missed by a large circle of friends. A coincidence in her demise was that the late Mr. McGillicuddy died on the fifth of May, a difference of but one day, plus the many years. She had been a subscriber to the Independent for 36 years. Those left to mourn her loss are three sisters, Mrs. M.E. Griffin of Wallaceburg, Mrs. A.C. Beamer of North Grimsby, Mrs. Nelson White of Fulton; a brother, M.W. Muir of Grassies; one daughter, Mrs. J.F. Brown of Toronto; and a step-daughter and step-son, Mrs. J.E. Jarvis of Hamilton and Frank McGillicuddy of Detroit. The funeral took place to the family plot at Woodburn on Monday, May 9, the Rev. P.W. Richardson of Tapleytown officiating. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, showing the kindly regard held for her.
