Full Text

On Tuesday, April 26 in the passing of Jacob A. Shaver of Ancaster Township, Wentworth County lost one of its oldest and most highly esteemed residents. Mr. Shaver was born at Rosedale Farm, Ancaster, on Nov. 10, 1839, and was the youngest son of the late Philip and Margaret Shaver, and grandson of the pioneers William and Mary Shaver, of U.E. Loyalist stock, who took up 1000 acres of land in what is known as the "Shaver neighborhood", Ancaster in 1798. Most of this land is still owned by their descendants. Mr. Shaver has lived his entire life of over 81 years in the same house in which he was born, which was built by his father in 1835. The sympathy of their many friends goes out to his widow, who for over 56 years has been his faithful and devoted wife. Their marriage was blest with a family of three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Hassard, wife of Rev. W.E. Hassard, B.D., Toronto; the late Mrs. Smith, wife of Dr. J.R. Smith of Grimsby; and Mrs. Reinke, wife of F.W. Reinke of Hamilton; also Herbert H. Shaver of Hamilton and Albert M. Shaver of "Rosedale" farm, Ancaster.
