Full Text

On Friday, April 15, 1921, there died in Grimsby Fannie Thompson Gibson, relict of the late Robert Lily Gibson, one-time quarry owner and Grand Trunk railway contractor. Mrs. Gibson was born in Ireland in 1843 and came to Canada with her parents when yet a child. For many years her father was depot agent for the then newly built Grand Trunk railway. During the course of his travels as a railway man, the late Mr. Gibson met and married Miss Thompson, and they lived in Grimsby up to the time of Mr. Gibson's death in 1881, and Mrs. Gibson has resided here since and had been a life long adherent of St. John's Presbyterian Church. Of a retiring but kindly disposition, Mrs. Gibson was admired and respected by all with whom she came in contact, and her many friends will mourn their loss with the closer relatives. Mrs. Gibson was a sister of the late Robert Thompson well known to all old time railroad men of Ontario. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. James Doran; four sons and two daughters: George of Grimsby; Robert A. of Clinton Township; Major William F. and John H. of Grimsby; Mrs. David F. Allan of Grimsby and Mrs. A. Grey of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The funeral took place on Monday, April 18, from her late home, Main and Robinson Streets to Queen's Lawn Cemetery, the large cortege and many floral offerings bearing mute testimony to the deep regard of her friends. The Rev. L.H. Currie, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Irwin, conducted the services at the house and Mr. Currie at the graveside.
