Wiarton, March 6 - John Wesley Cooley,B.A., pastor of the Methodist church here, died yesterday morning following an illness of two months. Born near Toronto 67 years ago, he spent 46 years in the Methodist ministry. During this time he was stationed at Brantford, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Tillsonburg, Grimsby, Milton and Hanover and many other places. An eloquent and vigorous speaker, a great reader and deep thinker, he was a man who commanded the respect and admiration of many. Some nine years ago he was elected President of the Hamilton Conference, and last year was appointed a delegate to attend the Ecumenical Conference which meets in London, England, in September next. At one time, owing to failing health, Mr. Cooley was compelled to leave the ministry for two years. During this time he was engaged as an assistant editor of the Winnipeg Free Press. He is survived by his wife, one son, F. Cooley, Mathematical Master at the Hamilton Technical School, and one daughter, Miss Dora, on the staff at the local public school. A funeral service will be held at the Methodist Church here Monday evening and the remains will be conveyed to Guelph Tuesday morning where service will be held in Norfolk Methodist Church, followed by interment in Union Cemetery.
