There died in Grimsby on Tuesday, Jan. 4th, 1921, Richard Edgar Woodruff, who will be missed by a large circle of friends in Hamilton, Grimsby and the surrounding district. Mr. Woodruff was born at St. David's, Ont. in 1847, the son of W.H. Woodruff, a United Empire Loyalist, and Mary Secord, daughter of Major David Secord. He was a veteran of the Fenian Raid of 1866, and shortly after that fiasco removed to Hamilton where he was in business for nearly half a century, and his kindly and gentle disposition throughout his private and business life endeared him to a host of friends who deeply regret his demise. About 8 years ago the family removed to Grimsby, where they continued to gain friends. Early in life Mr. Woodruff took up the study of geology, and the knowledge he acquired was often used by those who wished advice on mining formations. He took especial interest in molybdenite and its use in connection with the steel industry. Death came suddenly from heart failure. Deceased had been in his usual fair condition of health up to almost the moment of his death. Their remains to mourn his loss his wife and daughter and four sisters, Mrs. O.S. Pew of Chicago; Miss A.H. Woodruff of Chicago; Mrs. James Johns of Niagara Falls, Ont. and Mrs. J.S. Packard of Barrington, Mass. The funeral took place on Thursday, Jan. 6 to St. John's Presbyterian Cemetery, the Rev. J. Allan Ballard and the Rev. L.H. Currie officiating...The pallbearers were Archie E. and Frederick H. Woodruff of St. David's, Cecil E. and Ronald H. New of Hamilton, all nephews, D.A. Souter of Hamilton and E. Adkin of Grimsby...
