James Stewart Randall, a life-long resident of Grimsby, passed away on Saturday morning, November 6, 1920, after an illness of many months' duration. The late Mr. Randall was born in Grimsby December 6th, 1846, the second son of Capt. Andrew Randall and Elizabeth Walker, and had always made Grimsby his home. He was a civil engineer by profession and many are the monuments to his labors in that capacity. Notable among his local works being the laying out of the H. G. & B. railroad and a goodly portion of the Hamilton and Brantford electric line, but during his career had travelled much and worked on many public and private works with theodilite and level. He was a graduate of Buffalo University and his initial work was with the late T.C. Brownjohn with whom he worked on the Grand Trunk Airline, the Credit Valley railroad and much other work. During the Fenian Raid of 1866 he was a member of the company commanded by his father, the late Capt. Andrew Randall, and after that and in the early 70's was with H.R. Page, surveying many Ontario counties for map work for the atlases published by Mr. Page... As a peculiarity of fate his death occurred on the 16th anniversary of the death of his son Eric Claude who died on Nov. 6th, 1914. Mr. Randall was married in 1871 to Nellie Henry who survives him, and he also leaves to mourn his demise a daughter Edna and two brothers, Ralph W. of Hamilton and Robert T. of Galt. He was a life-long Liberal and always took a keen interest in public events. The funeral took place on Monday, November 8 to Queen's Lawn Cemetery, the Rev. J. Allan Ballard officiating. The pallbearers were George E. Waller, general manager of the Hamilton radial lines, W.H. Bingle, C.W.F. Carpenter, Albert Terryberry, David F. Allan and Alderman H.H. Marsh...
