Full Text

Accidentally killed - George Panter, an employee of the E.D. Smith Company of Winona, was fatally injured Monday afternoon at about three o'clock. A team of horses which he was driving in an orchard adjacent to the factory became frightened, and leaping suddenly forward, threw Mr. Panter from his seat to the ground, the heavy wagon passing over his body. David Moffat was also thrown from the wagon, but escaped being run over. He was unconscious for a time, but later recovered fully. Mr. Panter was rushed in an ambulance in the direction of the city but he succumbed to his injuries in a short time. The remainder of the trip to the city was made, and the funeral is taking place from the chapel of Green Guernsey today at 2:30. The men at the time of the accident were in the act of spraying the trees in the orchard, in which capacity Mr. Panter had worked during his three months of employment in the Smith factory. The reason for the sudden fright of the team of horses is not known. Mr. Panter was a married man and leaves his widow and a daughter about 15 years of age residing in Winona. He is a war veteran, having passed through both the South African and the recent war, and was 47 years of age.
