The funeral of the late John Hewitt took place from his home, "Deer Park", North Grimsby, on Wednesday, October 15, 1919, at 2:30 in the afternoon , and was very largely attended by relatives, old friends and neighbors. The services at the house and graveside were conducted by the Rector of St. Andrew's Church, the Rev. J. Allan Ballard. The 44th Regiment Band, to which the late Mr. Hewitt had been very liberal during his life, was present and headed the procession from the house to the graveside, rendering appropriate music. The pallbearers were: Active - Mr. Stewart, Oklahoma City, Okl.; Mr. Hewitt, of Brantford; Mr. Logan Waterous, Brantford; Mr. Bancroft, Hamilton; Mr. J.W. Bridgeman, Gobles; Mr. Herb Carpenter. Honorary - F.W. Pottinger, Hamilton Fleming, H.K. Griffith, E.F. Compton, Chicago; Charles Wouters, Chicago; Joseph Chapple, Boston; J.Matthews, Toronto. The following relatives were also present to pay respect to their deceased member of the family: Mr. Thomas C. Hewitt, Grimsby; Mr. and Mrs. William Hewitt, Beamsville; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stewart, Oklahoma; Mrs. Fleming and daughter, Pittsburgh; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wouters, Chicago; Mr. E.F. Compton, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Carpenter and daughters, St. Catharines; Miss Katie Carpenter, Beamsville; Miss Edith Hewitt, Mr. Harry Hewitt; Mr and Mrs. Waterous, Brantford; Mr. F.S Bancroft, Hamilton; Mr. Bancroft, Sr., Guelph; Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Bridgeman, Gobles; Mr. Lawrence Monroe, Hamilton; Mr.and Mrs. Joseph Chappelle, Boston; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Gagan and son, and Mr. and Mrs. John Kemp. North Grimsby; Mr. Scott Wallace, Chicago; Mr. Tennent, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Mathews and Mrs. Trow, Toronto. Mr. Edgar Hewitt, son of Mr. T.C. Hewitt, and Mr. Andrew Carpenter, nephews, were about the only absentees from the list of blood-relations...
