Citizens of Beamsville and surrounding district suffered a severe loss on Friday, March 9th, when Mr. Edward Boughner of Clinton Township suddenly passed away after only two days' illness at the age of 66 years and one month. The deceased gentleman was born and spent his whole life on the farm where he passed away, and was one of Clinton township's most successful farmers and dairymen. Mr. Boughner was a man of sterling qualities and a quiet and unassuming disposition, yet taking a great interest in municipal and educational work, and was a member of the Township Council at the time of his death. He united with the Beamsville Baptist Church 58 years ago and has been a deacon for 40 years of that time and was a devout and faithful attendant at the services and was a strong supporter of anything pertaining to the advancement of the spreading of the Gospel, and in politics was a lifelong Conservative. Mr. Boughner was descended from U.E.L. stock, his grandfather, Martin Boughner, came from New Jersey in 1758, and settled on Lots 18 and 19 in the 5th Con. of Clinton Township, and has been held by the Boughner family for four generations, the present owner being the only son of the deceased. The deceased gentleman was twice married, his first wife being Sarah Bennett, a sister of J.D. and Alexander Bennett of Beamsville, who predeceased him 25 years ago; his second wife being Charity Zimmerman, daughter of Geo. Zimmerman of Clinton Township. His sudden demise was a great shock to the whole community and he will be greatly missed by his friends and associates, as he was a friend to everyone who tried to live an upright life. The funeral services were held at his late home, on Monday, March 12th, Rev. McLeod officiating, thence to Mount Osborne Cemetery, where amidst sorrowing friends the remains were laid to rest...The pallbearers were his lifelong friends and admirers, being C.E Riggins, Levi Moyer, John Tufford, Mr. Albright, Angus Stuart and D.H. Moyer. His widow and three children are left to mourn a loving husband and father, the children being Mrs. Geo. Marlow of Grimsby, Mrs. Levi Boose of South Cayuga and William Boughner at home.
