On Tuesday, September 26, 1916, the funeral of the late Mrs. William Esson of Port Sydney, Muskoka, took place from the Grand Trunk train to Queen's Lawn Cemetery, Grimsby. The Rev. Allan Ballard, rector of St. Andrew's Church, officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy will be remembered by the older residents of Grimsby and North Grimsby as they both resided here about 30 years ago. Mrs. Esson was Miss Sarah Murphy, sister of the late Thomas Murphy, and in her girlhood resided at the family homestead in South Grimsby. The late Mrs. Esson passed away at her home on Saturday, Sept. 23, and as she was a native of Grimsby, her husband decided to bring the remains to Queen's Lawn Cemetery for interment. The deceased lady was one of a family of 12, and besides her husband she is now survived by four sisters and two brothers as follows: Mrs. James Smith, of Tonawanda, N.Y.; Mrs. William Game, Lapere, Mich.; Mrs. Richard Hopkins of Grassies and Miss Eliza Murphy at the old homestead. The brothers are George Murphy of Rochester, N.Y. and Richard Murphy of Clifton Springs, N.Y. Mr. Thomas Esson, a brother-in-law of the deceased lady was also in Grimsby to attend the funeral as was also Mrs. Smith of Tonawanda and the sisters residing here. The deceased lady had reached the age of 62 years. Miss Eliza Murphy returned home with Mr. William Esson to Port Sydney.
