Full Text

David Mettler, of Effingham, in Pelham Township, was drowned Monday afternoon in a small creek running through the homestead. When the body was found, his head was in shallow water and the toe of one foot caught over a fence rail on the bank. He was about 80 years old, and in his feeble condition it is supposed he was unable to rise after tripping and falling head first into the water. He was born on the homestead where he met his death, and had been a resident of the township practically all his life. He had served many terms as reeve, and was a lifelong and prominent Liberal.
