The citizens of Grimsby and North Grimsby were greatly shocked on Monday, March 20th, to learn of the sudden demise of Mr. G. Watson Muir, or, as he was popularly known, Watson Muir. Mr. Watson Muir, who has been a highly respected citizen of Grimsby for many years, enjoyed his usual health up until within a few hours of his death, being out and around the neighbourhood on Sunday, March 19th. On Sunday evening he retired in his usual good health and rested well until about five o'clock Monday morning, when he was seized with severe pains in the chest. Mrs. Muir at once called in Dr. Smith, but in a few hours the sick man passed away. For many years the late Watson Muir had been an outstanding figure in Grimsby township and village, taking a keen interest in political and municipal affairs and in church work. He formerly lived near Grassies, where he still owned a farm up to the time of his death. Several years ago he and Mrs. Muir moved to Grimsby village where he bought a fine piece of property on Livingston Avenue, which since has become very valuable. The deceased gentleman was of a genial disposition and was very popular with a large circle of relatives and friends, and his sudden demise will be regretted. He is survived by his wife, one son, Angus, of Ottawa, and one daughter, Mrs. Staniland, of Hamilton. The funeral is taking place this afternoon to Queen's Lawn Cemetery and is being largely attended. [2nd entry: George Watson Muir, in his 72nd year)
