Full Text

The news of the critical illness, followed by a telegram announcing the death of Mrs. Albion W. Tourgee, came to Adolphus Pettit on Sunday last. It came as a shock as she had spent six weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Pettit during the past summer, apparently in the best of health notwithstanding her advanced age of 76 years. Mrs. Tourgee was the widow of the Hon. A.W. Tourgee, who died near the end of his second term (eight years) as American Consul to Bordeau, France. He was a noted author of several historical novels after the Civil War in the United States. He was a lawyer and Judge of the Supreme Court. They had one daughter whose death occurred about two years after her father's death, when she and her mother had returned to America. Mrs. Tourgee was a cousin of the late Dennis Nixon of Grimsby. Mrs. Tourgee passed away at Mayville, New York State.
