Full Text

Mrs. Thos. Dearing, who has been a resident of Smithville and Grimsby (living with her son-in-law, Mr. Frank Sifton),for the past three or four years. passed away at the home of her son, Thos. Dearing, of Palermo, Ont., at the advanced age of 88 years on Sunday evening last. Mrs. Dearing, who was exceptionally bright and smart for her age, made many friends in North and South Grimsby during her stay and they will regret to learn of her demise. The deceased lady, whose name was Jane Vanstone, was born in 1827. She was married in England in 1857 and came with her husband on their wedding trip to Canada, being on a sailing vessel for 51 days. They settled in Trafalgar where they resided up to the time of Mr. Dearing's death, when he was accidentally killed at a barn-raising 28 years ago. His widow lived in that neighbourhood ever since, except the few years she spent in this locality. She was bright and smart right up to the time of her death, which was the result of an attack of paralysis, with which she was seized on July 9. She is survived by five sons, George of Vancouver, Mark of Hamilton, William, Thomas and John of Palermo, Ont., and one daughter, Mrs. Frank Sifton, of Grimsby. The funeral took place at St. Luke's Church Cemetery, Palermo on Tuesday, July 13, and was largely attended by relatives and old acquaintances
