North Grimsby lost one of its most highly respected citizens when Mrs. Sardis Smith passed away on Sunday, May 9, in her 75th year, after a residence in Grimsby of about half a century. The late Mrs. Smith, whose maiden name was Sarah Jane Squires, was born in the state of Deleware, but lived most of her early life in the state of New York. After being married to Mr. Sardis Smith, of Grimsby, she came to live here and was a resident of North Grimsby up to the time of her death. Her husband predeceased her about 10 years. All her family were at her bedside when she passed away. She is survived by four sons and one daughter and one brother. Her sons were W.E. and R.O. of Grimsby, George L. of Warren, Pa., and Frank of Duboise, Pa. Her only daughter, Miss Lena, is at home. Her brother, W.K. Squires, of Natural Bridge, N.Y., accompanied by his wife, was here at the time of her death. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, service being held in the house and in St. Andrew's Church, by the Rev. J. Allan Ballard. Interment took place at Queen's Lawn Cemetery.
