John H. Housser, secretary and one of the directors of the Massey-Harris Company, died very suddenly at his home in Toronto Sunday night, following a brief illness of acute indigestion, aged 65 years. He was at the office of the company by which he was employed on Friday, and the announcement of his death came as a surprise to most of his friends in all parts of Canada where he was known. In addition to his business connections, the deceased took an active interest in church and social life in Toronto. He was prominently identified with the Methodist Church, which suffers a severe loss in his death. Mr. Housser was born at Beamsville in 1849 and received his education at the local schools. For a short time he taught school in the county of Lincoln and in 1869 entered the dry goods business at St. Catharines. Since 1872 he has been connected with the agricultural implement industry, which claimed his enthusiastic attention. First he represented A. Harris, Son and Company of Brantford at Beamsville; soon, however, going to the Brantford office. In 1880 he went to Winnipeg as assistant manager for the firm, continuing in a similar position for the Massey-Harris Company after the amalgamation of 1891. He was transferred to Brantford in 1894 and to the Toronto office in 1895 and since 1901 has been director and secretary of the Massey-Harris Company...He was married in 1874 to Mary Jane Broughton of Brantford. Mr. Housser is survived by his wife and three children, two sons, Harry and Fred, in Toronto, and one daughter, Mrs. Parsons, wife of a prominent contractor in Regina, Sask.
