Full Text

The death of Andrew M. Pettit, which took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Everett, near Vineland on Friday, April 7, removed one of the oldest and best known of the real old timers in this locality. Andrew M. Pettit was born in the township of North Grimsby, and with the exception of a few years spent with friends near Windsor, he lived his entire life in this locality. He was a particularly healthy and active man and was as smart on his feet as a man of 50 although he had reached the advanced age of 88 years. The deceased gentleman was born on the old Pettit farm on the Mountain in North Grimsby in 1823. After his marriage to Miss Paterson of Smithville, he moved below the mountain and located on the Stone Road about one mile east of Grimsby, where he lived up to the time of his wife's death, about 20 years ago. He was a very thrifty well to do farmer and accumulated considerable money. Shortly after the death of his wife he sold the farm and since that time has made his home with relatives sometimes at Windsor and sometimes in Grimsby. For the past few months he has been residing near Vineland where he died. In religion he was a member of the Church of England, and in politics a staunch Conservative. The funeral took place from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Everett, Vineland, on Monday, April 10th at one o'clock in the afternoon and was attended by a large concourse of relatives and old friends. Service was conducted in St. Andrew's Church, Grimsby. Service was conducted at the house, the church, and the grave by Rev. Chester Kemp of Clinton, Mich.
