Married in Miller's Jewelery Store: No Minerva, they didn't elope. They just decided to get married, and married they got. The marriage of two young people has just come to light which has a smack of romance about it, and reminds one of that old adage, "Marry in haste, repent at leisure". On Saturday night, March 11, Mr. Geo. E. Miller, Grimsby's popular jeweler, and issuer of marriage licenses, received a telephone message from Winona, to the effect that a lady and gentleman would be down on the 8:20 car for a marriage license, as they wished to get married, and sure enough, when the 8:20 came, in popped the happy couple and asked for a license. After the genial George had made out the ever-binding document, the young man asked George where the minister was. "Minister," says George, "why there is no minister here." "Why," sighs the young man, who answers to the handle of Melville John Luke, "I thought you always had a minister. You see, this lady, whose name is Laura Toustin, and I have only been going together for three days and we have decided that we are suited for one another and we want to be married here, so get a minister, quick." So George made a race for the telephone and called up the Rev. A.I. Terryberry and asked him to come up and perform the ceremony. The reverend gentleman was soon on the spot and in a very few minutes had tied the knot which makes two hearts beat as one. Mr. Miller and Mel. Pettit acting as witnesses. After the ceremony, Mr. Luke, on behalf of himself and his blushing young bride, thanked Mr. Miller for his kindness in helping them, and they left the store as happy as a pair of turtle doves on a bright spring morning. Doesn't that make your heart turn a double flip-flop, Minerva? I know it does mine.
