There passed away at his home in North Grimsby, on Sunday morning last, one of North Grimsby's oldest, if not the oldest resident, in the person of Mr. David Allen Sr. [spelled Allan in header and Allen in body of obituary - 1901 census gives "Allen"] who had reached the ripe old age of 90 years. The deceased had been in his usual good health up to about a week previous to his demise, when he contracted a bad cold, which developed rapidly and resulted in his death. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, services being held at the house at two o'clock and the interment at Queen's Lawn Cemetery... The late...[illegible]as a staunch Scotch Presbyterian Conservative, born in Dumfrieshire, Scotland, in 1817. He married in that country and came to Canada in the early fifties. He first settled in the Township of Nelson, Halton Co., and engaged in farming, and in April 1886 moved to North Grimsby on to the farm which he occupied up to the time of his death. His wife predeceased him about two years. He is survived by four sons and three daughters.
