In failing health for some time, Charles Rhodes, resident of Grimsby Beach for the last 26 years, passed away at his home on Saturday, in his 77th year. A former member of the Royal Navy, he was born in England and came to Canada 37 years ago. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Foresters. Surviving, besides his wife, is one son, Frederick Rhodes, of Toronto; also ten brothers and sisters in England. An enthusiastic bowler, Mr. Rhodes was an officer of the Grimsby Beach Lawn Bowling Club and had taken part in many club and outside tournaments. He was also a keen chess player and had taken part in numerous chess tournaments in Hamilton. Rev. Francis McAvoy, chaplain of West Lincoln Branch, Canadian Legion, conducted funeral service at his late home on Wednesday afternoon. Interment was made in Queen's Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers were: Geo. Fair, Arthur Ball, H. Robinson, S.G. Bartlett, E.M. Comfort, Ralph Paddle.
