Away back in 1900 there came into Grimsby a young Scotsman by the name of James Aitchison who opened up a tailoring business in the building that is now the Russ Apartments, next to the Roxy Theatre. From that little tailor shop developed one of the most prominent and successful fruit shippers in the history of the Niagara Peninsula. Not in the best of health for the past several years he still continued as Sales Manager of Niagara Packers Limited. Just a few days before Christmas he suffered another seizure and despite all the fine care of the medical profession and staff of West Lincoln Memorial Hospital he passed away on Christmas Night. From that little tailor shop he branched out into the flour and feed business and then later into the coal business. It was in 1912 that he decided that he would like to go into the fruit business. He purchased the old Canada Fruit Co., pulled it out of the rut and made a success of it. At the time of the formation of Niagara Packers Limited, he was asked and given the position of Sales Manager, which position he held until the time of his death, that was 21 years ago.
