Mary A. Carpenter, widow of the late Jeremiah Collins, J.P., of Smithville celebrated her 92nd birthday at 102 Grant Avenue, Hamilton, Tuesday. Born May 12, 1844, in Wentworth County, a daughter of Jeremiah Carpenter and his wife, Mary A. Jones, United Empire Loyalists stock. Mrs. Collins is the only one living of nine children. Her early girlhood was spent in the Winona-Grimsby district. July 1, 1875 she was united in marriage at St. Catharines to Jeremiah Collins, a merchant of Smithville, and spent nearly 60 years in that town. Mr. Collins was magistrate there for over 20 years before his death in 1910. Mrs. Collins has resided in Hamilton, Ont. for three years. She is enjoying good health and is exceptionally bright mentally for one of her great age. Mrs. George A. Lumley (Jessie) is her only child and Miss Muriel C. Lumley, Detroit, Mich. is her only grandchild.

Mrs. Collins has been a life-long member of the Methodist church at Smithville, Ontario.

She is enjoying excellent health, has a vivid memory of her childhood and enjoys talking with friends of the days of auld lang syne.
