Death after a lingering illness removed a well-known and highly esteemed citizen of Hamilton, at his residence, 749 Cannon Street east, on Saturday, July 25, 1925, in the person of David Gowland, aged 66 years. Deceased was born in Blackheath, and for many years was a prominent farmer in that vicinity. He came to Grimsby 17 years ago, and upon retiring 8 years ago went to Hamilton to reside. He is survived by his wife, five sons, J. James. of Grimsby; William, Clarence, Harold and George of Hamilton; five daughters, Mrs. George Dalgleish, of Niagara Falls, N.Y; Mrs. Clare Patterson, of Grimsby; Mrs. Austin Louks, of Grimsby; Mrs. James Mercer, of Hamilton, and Miss Margaret, at home; two brothers, George Gowland, of Syracuse, N.Y., and John, of Blackheath, and three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Kerns, and Mrs. Daniel Smith, of California, and Mrs. Herbert Davis, of Beamsville. The funeral took place from his residence on Monday afternoon to Queens Lawn Cemetery, Grimsby, the Rev. J. Allan Ballard conducting the service. The pallbearers were the five sons, and a nephew Stace Gowland.
