The funeral took place this morning to St. Josephs R.C. church of James Alfred Hand, who died, in his 49th year, on Sunday morning, Feb. 15th, 1925, at his home 89 Ontario Street. Six weeks ago he was taken to St. Josephs hospital in Hamilton suffering from chronic illness, but from the first little hope was entertained for his recovery. Three weeks ago he was broght home where he lingered until Sunday. Deceased was the fourth son of the late John and Ellen Hand, and was born in Niagara in September 1875, coming to Grimsby about a year later, where he has resided since. He had been connected with the fishing industry all his life, and for the past 20 years had been in partnership with his brother Edward. Mr. Hand was well liked by business associates and will be missed by a host of friends. He was not married but leaves to mourn his demise three brothers and three sisters, Frank, Philip and Edward, and Miss Eliza Hand with whom he lived, Mrs. Nellie Doherty of Windsor, and Mrs. Harry Talbert of Grimsby. Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Miller, at St. Josephs church this morning, whence the remains were conveyed to Queens Lawn Cemetery for interment. Mrs. Doherty of Windsor, was present at the funeral.
