On Friday, April 20, 1917, Mr. Filby a resident of North Grimsby for nearly half a century passed away at his home on the Grimsby Mountain Road in his 78th year. The late William Filby was born in England in 1839 and came to Canada at an early age. He spent a great part of his life farming in North Grimsby on the farms immediately adjacent to Grimsby Centre but gave up farming many years ago and purchased a small fruit farm on the Mountain side just outside the village limits, where he resided up to the time of his death.

His widow, who survives him, was a daughter of the late Thomas Grasley and a sister of Joseph, and two daughters, Mrs. Jacobs of Grimsby and Mrs. John Disher, Niagara Falls, Ont. Also 4 brothers and one sister. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 0'clock to Queen's Lawn Cemetery, services at the house and graveside being conducted by the Rev. J.H. MacLaughlin,of the Methodist Church. The pallbearers were John Hilts(?), Thomas Sowerby, Robt. Cosby, W. R. Neville, W.W. Beamer and J.E. Lawson.
