Friends and business associates...will be shocked to learn that John Hunter Gibson, prominent coal merchant and well known resident of Grimsby, passed away at an early hour this morning, Thursday, November 29th. "John H." had not been in the best of health for some time...Deceased was the son of the late Robert and Fannie Gibson, the family for many years operating the Gibson stone quarry on the mountainside, underneath The Point. In his younger years he spent some time in British Columbia, other than that he has been a lifelong resident of Grimsby...[memberships]...[sports]...He was born on July 20th, 1878, and was in his 68th year. He is survived by his widow, the former Ethel VanDyke, and daughter Marion at home. One brother, Robert A. Gibson, of St. Catharines and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Gray, of Hamilton. Funeral services will be held from his late home, Main Street East, on Saturday afternoon to Queen's Lawn Cemetery...
