Born on the Isle of Wight, he came to Grimsby as a boy and engaged in agriculture. Nelles, one time postmaster of Grimsby; one son Edwin and one daughter Pauline at home; three brothers, Frank of New York, Robert of Toronto, and Edward in England. A private service was held at his home on Tuesday morning, with public service in St. Andrew's church on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. E.A. Brooks officiating, assisted by Rev. J. Allan Ballard, interment taking place in St. Andrew's Churchyard. Casket bearers were: George, Malcolm, Allen and Willison Nelles, J.H. Gibson and Nelles Rutherford.
