Grimsby citizens were deeply shocked on Saturday last to hear of the sudden passing in Ottawa, on Friday evening, of Edith Jane Woodward Fonger, wife of ex-Reeve Halburton Fonger, for many years residents of this town. Deceased lady had been a resident of Ottawa for the past 3 months, having gone there last fall after a slight illness at her daughter's home in Port Dalhousie. While not in the very best of health, still she was not what could be called ill. On Friday afternoon she had attended a tea bridge of a ladies' organization in the Capital City and was on her way home when she suffered a seizure. She was rushed to hospital but passed away shortly after admittance. Mrs. Fonger while a resident of Grimsby was very active in ladies' organizations and societies of St. Andrew's Anglican Church. She was a Past Regent of Lincoln Loyalist Chapter I.O.D.E. and a life member of that body. Besides a sorrowing husband she leaves to mourn her loss, two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Otto (Doris) Miller, Lakewood, O.; Mrs. W.R. (Mabel) Fisher, Port Dalhousie; Capt. Alfred with the L.& W. overseas, and F.O. Richard, R.C.A.F., overseas. A very impressive funeral service was conducted by Rev. J. Allan Ballard, in St. Andrew's Church on Monday afternoon, many sympathizing friends and relatives being in attendance. Interment took place in Queen's Lawn Cemetery, the grave being banked with many beautiful floral tokens. Casket bearers were: Mayor E.S. Johnson, George Nelles, Fred Jewson, G.G. Bourne, Robt. Johnston, Port Dalhousie, Wm. Shennen, St. Catharines.
