Leslie Clendening, aged 20, of Caistor Centre, was instantly killed Friday morning, October 21 at the Lincoln County quarry at Smithville, when an explosive, which he struck with his pick went off. Bert Travis, who was working beside Clendening, was badly cut in the face but the foreman of the quarry, John Miller, who was standing almost directly behind Clendening and a number of other men in the vicinity escaped without injury. [Detailed account of accident]... The deceased was the only son of Marvin Clendening of Caistor Centre. Funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, October 23 at 1:00 o'clock to Grace Methodist Church. This is the first fatal accident since Lincoln County took over the quarry three years ago.
