Full Text

One of Grimsby's most highly respected citizens passed to his last reward on Saturday morning last, after an illness of some months' duration, in the person of Robert Henry Hughes at the age of 76 years. Deceased was a direct descendant of the late Ralph Walker, pioneer United Empire Loyalist, who settled in this district following the American Revolution in 1776. He had resided here practically all his life following his trade in the earlier days of carriage painter. With the advent of the automobile he went to Detroit where he worked for some years as an automobile painter and striper [sic] and then returned to Grimsby where he followed up his work until about a year ago. He was a member of Crescent Lodge 104, I.O.O.F., Hamilton, and took an active part in fraternal affairs for many years.
