A well known and highly respected resident of Grimsby for over 30 years, but latterly a resident of Hamilton, passed away on Sunday morning, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Mercer, 16 Elm Street, Hamilton, in the person of Mrs. David Gowland, in her 84th year. Deceased lady was born in Scotland, the former Mary Ann Beattie, and came to Canada as a little child settling with her parents at Blackheath where she grew up and married the late David Gowland. After farming in the Blackheath district for some years they came to Grimsby to reside. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Surviving are five sons, James of Grimsby; William, Clarence, Harold and George of Hamilton; and five daughters, Mrs. George Dalgleish, Niagara Falls, Ont., Miss Margaret, Mrs. L.M. Patterson, Mrs. Austin Louks, Mrs. James Mercer, all of Hamilton. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon from the J.B. Marlatt funeral home to Queen's Lawn Cemetery where interment took place.
