Away back when - recalling February 1913 - On Thursday morning the 6th, one of the saddest drowning fatalities ever to occur in the district, took place at the harbor, when little Johnny Cope, 12-year-old son of George and Mrs. Cope, broke through the ice and was drowned while skating. His companion Reggie Dalgleish had a narrow escape from meeting the same fate.
