Deep sorrow was felt throughout the community with the passing of William Shelton in hospital, on Sunday morning after a lengthy illness. Born in England, he was in his 78th year and came to Canada with his father when 9 years of age. His occupation was that of a farmer until retiring 12 years ago. A resident of Grimsby and North Grimsby for the past 60 years, Mr. Shelton was well known throughout the district and his passing will be keenly felt. Besides being an almost life-long resident of Grimsby himself, 5 of his 8 children are residents of the town. He was an adherent of the Trinity United Church. Surviving besides his wife, the former Augusta Jane Tice, are 4 daughters and 4 sons: Mrs. James Fisher, Grimsby; Mrs. Leonard Lawson, St. Catharines; Mrs. Arthur Woodcock, Grimsby; Miss Dorothy Shelton at home; Clarence and Percy Shelton, Grimsby; Bert Shelton, St. Catharines, and John Shelton, Beamsville; also 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The funeral service, which was largely attended by friends and relatives, was held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Woodcock, on Tuesday afternoon. Pallbearers were four sons, Clarence, Percy, Bert and John, and two sons-in-law, Leonard Lawson and Arthur Woodcock. Rev. W.J. Watt officiated and interment was made in Queen's Lawn Cemetery.
